How to Write a Electrical Engineering Job Cover Letter

When you apply for a job the employer will pay special attention to the cover letter and the resume. You want these documents to reflect you and they need to be well thought out with a lot of attention to detail. If you write a well prepared cover letter, you will increase your chances of getting an interview.


  1.  Give a brief summary on your length of expertise in the Engineering field. Include your specific area of expertise and give a bit of background on how long you have been doing this for. You can also include what made you decide to choose this career path, express your interest in the Engineering field.

  2. Write about any supervisor roles you may have had. Tell the employer about any experience you have supervising employees. Having supervisor experience is a good thing when trying to get a new job in a field you have experience in.

  3. Write about any software programs you have training in, as well as any design practices you have experience in. Include any software programs you have decent knowledge in, sometimes it is good to have a little experience rather than none.

  4. Give your level of education; some positions may require a PH.D while others require only a bachelor's degree. 

  5. Write down any licenses or certifications you hold, being a licensed Engineer looks good on the cover letter and should be added. In addition, if you went to any trade schools for these license provide the name of the school and what specific certifications you hold.


Engineering is a tough job to apply for, but it is a good long time career. With the proper documents, you should hopefully get that interview.
