How to Properly Uninstall a Printer Fax Program

Properly uninstalling a printer fax program from a computer only takes a few minutes to do. Many printers have an uninstall program that automatically removes the device from a computer by following the prompts. If the printer does not have an uninstall feature it is easy to remove the program manually.

  1. Click the “Start” button on your computer taskbar and look for your printer under “All Programs.” Open the printer folder and review the files to see if there is an uninstall option. If there is, all you need to do to remove the printer from your computer is to click the uninstall program and follow the steps as they appear.

  2. Remove the printer by clicking “Start,” then “Control Panel” if you do not have an uninstall option. Find the “Programs and Features” category in “Control Panel.” Click “Uninstall a Program” and look for your printer in the list that appears.

  3. Click the printer in the list of programs and then click “Uninstall” on the top menu bar. A box will pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall the printer. Click “Yes” to remove the printer from your computer.

  4. Exit the control panel once you finish uninstalling the printer program. Go back to “Start” on your taskbar then click “All Programs.” Scroll down the programs that appear to make sure that your printer folder is gone from the list. If the printer still shows up in the list you can delete it by right clicking the folder and choosing “Delete” from the pop up menu.

  5. Remove the printer cable from the back of your computer. Unplug the printer from the wall and wrap up the cable. You can donate the device to charity if it is still in good condition and you are not using it at another location.
