How to Replace a Toner Cartridge in a Laser Printer

How to Clean a Laser Printer

Cleaning your laser printer regularly can help you to avoid costly repair problems later. Always make sure that you do not allow water or other fluids to get into the interior of your printer. Do not use harsh cleaning products on your printer.

Items Needed:

  • Old newspapers

  • Paper towels

Instructions:

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.

  2. Remove the paper supply trays and the toner cartridge. Set each piece aside. Lay the toner cartridge on old newspaper to avoid getting toner on carpeting or other surfaces.

  3. Use a dry paper towel to wipe down the inside of the printer. Any moisture left in your printer can attract toner and dust, which can clog the printer's inner mechanisms. Wipe down the areas you can easily reach. Remove any scraps of paper that you find within the printer since these can lead to paper jams later.

  4. Replace the toner cartridge.

  5. Remove any paper from the paper trays. Wipe down the paper trays with a damp paper towel and dry them. Replace the paper and reinsert the paper trays into the printer.

  6. Wipe down the outside of the printer with a damp paper towel.

  7. Plug the printer back in to the power source.

  8. Allow the printer to fully turn on and to run through any self-diagnostic tests that it runs when turning on.

  9. Print a test page from your computer to make sure that your cleaned printer is operating properly. If you experience any difficulties, troubleshoot the issue using your printer's manual.
