How to Plan Your Landscape Design

One of the most difficult things about planning a landscape design is choosing between all the different options that you have. There are just so many breathtaking landscapes that you can create. Fortunately, the overall planning is a relatively easy process to complete.

Supplies needed.

  • Paper

  • Pencil

  • Ruler

  • Computer (optional)

  • Landscaping software (optional)

  1. Decide what your landscaping budget will be. This will determine just how much money you can spend on flowers, bushes and other items you will need to create your landscape. Items like fountains can be expensive. If you are on a limited budget, you may just want to stick with plants and flowers.

  2. Take note of how large the area is. If the area is large, you can create different zones and looks for your landscape. If the area is small, then you will want to stay with one look and feel.

  3. Use your pencil to draw out a map of the area you will be creating a landscape for. Try to make it as accurate as possible. Use the ruler to help draw straight lines. Label the areas in your landscape. Mark items such as “house” or “garage” as they appear on your landscape. Make a couple of copies of our drawing so that you can create different landscapes.

  4. Start adding items to your landscape. Add the flowers, bushes, plants and trees that you desire. Add any additional items that you may be thinking of. Some other items can be water fountains and statues. Decorations can also be added.

  5. Do not make the landscape design too complicated. Do not put too much clutter into your landscape.

  6. Go over your designs and pick which one your like the best.

  7. Using a computer and landscaping software is a more expensive way to complete this process. You simply input the information into the computer template and follow the step-by-step process laid out by the software.
