How to Paint Your Own Flower Pot

Painting your own flowerpot can be a fun craft for people of all ages. It is a great way to customize and decorate pots that can be used or give as gifts for special occasions and events. Be creative and have fun while painting your own flower pot.

Supplies Needed:

  • Acrylic  paint

  • Paint brushes or sponges

  • Polyurethane

  • Sponge or rag

  • Terra-cotta pot

  • Sandpaper

  1. Spray the polyurethane on the inside of the terra-cotta pot to seal it and prevent the paint from peeling. Allow several minutes for the polyurethane to dry.

  2. Use a rag or sponge to wipe down the pot and remove any dirt or grease that may be present on it. If the pot is dirty, the paint will not be able to adhere to it properly and will chip and peel off easily.

  3. Use a paintbrush to apply a layer of paint the the terra-cotta pot. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

  4. Use paint, markers, glue and embellishments to decorate the outside of the pot. You can use the paint brushed and markers to create images on the pot. Use the glue to apply the embellishments to the pot. You may also choose to paint the pot with another coat of paint.

  5. Allow the painted and decorated pot to dry. It can take several hours for the pot to dry. Once it is completely dry, spray a coat of polyurethane on the pot. Allow it to dry and then apply a second coat. This will protect the paint from peeling or chipping off the pot.
