Tropical Flower Art Arrangements

Tropical flowers have a reputation for having long lasting qualities as well as unique characteristics that embody variety, freshness and brilliant color. In most cases, tropical flowers are used together with modern flowers for arrangements that are perfect for bouquets and gift boxes, and formal events.

Arrangements

Tropical flowers look best in loose arrangements. Clipping the ends and placing the stems in a vase, then pulling out some of the flowers and trimming others, produces pleasing results. To maintain the arrangement for a long time, all that is required is regular trimming, which is easy to do in loose arrangements. Placing the stems in the vase in a planned arrangement and tying the stems together with the bottoms trimmed even also looks quite pleasing. The Orchids are the easiest flowers to arrange. Placing them in a vase is enough. They tend to arch naturally, filling the space beautifully.

Long Lasting Flowers

Tropical flower arrangements last long with proper care. Most of them should last at least five days for those that are delicate and eight days for the hardier varieties. Anthuriums can last between seven and 14 days, Oncidium Orchids last between seven and 10 days and Dendrobium Orchids can last five to eight days. The climatic conditions will affect the condition of the flowers. Tropical flowers require fresh water. Regular misting and avoiding heat sources and drafts will ensure that the flowers remain fresh for long.

Types of Tropical Flowers

The Orchids are the most versatile and easiest flowers to work with. Anthuriums are also popular and easy to arrange. They are available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Birds of paradise are popular in tropical flowers bouquets. They are mid-sized and need to be bound together to avoid bruising the more delicate flowers. They evoke the feeling of palm trees producing a real authentic tropical atmosphere. Heliconia, which come in different sizes are tropical flowers that will take over a room with their presence. The large ones are best used as floor arrangements and the heavy stems need to be supported. They are a good way to create a focal point in a room. The small ones can be used to add color and height to flower arrangements of any size. The mid-sized ones are the most versatile and can be mixed in with other tropical flowers.

Foliage

Foliage is often used in tropical flower arrangements although this is not always necessary when the flowers are large and fill up a vase easily. Monster, ti-leaves and areca palm leaves are popular as table decorations. Tropical foliage helps to hold the flowers in place and protect flowers that are more delicate.
