How to Make a Reptile Terrarium Lid
Many people choose to customize their terrariums to make the perfect environment for reptiles. You’ll want a lid if you want to contain the pet to the terrarium. Making your own lid for these custom sized enclosures isn’t difficult. You only need a few basic materials.
Making your own reptile terrarium lid can be a very rewarding process. You can make it look however you want and fit your own reptile terrarium perfectly. Here is how to easily make your own reptile terrarium lid.
What You’ll Need:
- Tape Measure
- Wood
- Pencil
- Screen
- Wire Cutters
- Saw
- Staple Gun
- Use your measuring tape to properly measure the tank. You will need to get more material than what you measured the tank to be. You’ll need to measure the width of all sides of the inside top of your tank. You will then add an inch to each side for your lid.
- Opt for a soft mesh for the lid. Get enough wood for the lid’s frame. Unroll your soft mesh over the tank. Trim the mesh to the depth that works best for you. You will need it to be long enough for your wood.
- Leave it longer on the sides so that it can stabilize your top. Cut your screen down onto the edge of the inside corner and then bend down each of the sides. You’ll need to do this completely around the top. Fold the rest of the screen on the sides over the flaps.
- Cut your wood so that it is an inch longer that what you have already measured. Staple one piece of the wood at a time to the lid. You’ll need to put them about halfway on the inside part of your screen. Finishing nails will be needed so that you can keep the wood together.
