How to Make a Reptile Terrarium Cage
In order to keep a reptile as a pet, you must provide it with the appropriate type of habitat so that it can survive. These types of cages are relatively easy to put together, and are an ideal choice for those who wish to have a pet with low maintenance requirements.
Things You Will Need:
- Tank
- Substrate
- Water dish
- Food dish
- Accessories
- Heat lamp
- Research the type of reptile you plan to get or already have and determine what type of cage you need to obtain. For instance, if you are purchasing a baby bearded dragon lizard, you are able to start out with a 10-gallon tank, but once it grows to adult size, you will need to obtain a larger, 18 to 30-gallon tank in order to give it room to grow and move around freely.
- Pour the substrate in the tank first and make sure that it is spread evenly on the bottom of the tank. You can opt to purchase sand to put inside the tank or you can use store-bought substrate that is available at your local pet supply store.
- Place the water dish on one side of the tank. This should be the same side that you place the food dish. On the other side, you will need to place a cave so that your pet has a place to baste and to get away from the heat whenever it is ready.
- Add accessories inside the tank, such as a large branch and other objects that your pet is able to play and climb on.
- Place a heat lamp on the top of the tank so that you provide the reptile with the heat that it needs in order to survive. The top of the tank must be made out of a screen material in order for the heat to go through to the interior of the tank.
