How to Make Business Cards in Microsoft Word

Making business cards is a quick and easy process when using Microsoft Word, standard perforated business card sheets and an inkjet printer. Follow these simple instructions and you will be surprised how quickly you can have a stack of custom business cards.

  1. Purchase the blank business card sheets of your choice at your local office supply store.

    • If using Microsoft Word 2003 (or an earlier version) from the Tools menu, select "Envelopes and Labels." (Skip to #2 below.)

    • If using Microsoft Word 2007 select the "Mailings" tab.

  2. Select "Labels" - The Envelopes and Labels window will open.

  3. Select "Options" - The Label Options window will open.

  4. Select "Avery US Letter" - This option is available in the pull down menu next to "Label Vendors." If you purchased a brand other than Avery, select that brand instead. Avery templates are standard and will usually work with store and other brands.

  5. Select the "Product Number" - Highlight the number of the product that corresponds to your cards and select "OK."

  6. Enter Text - In the Address box enter the information as you want it to appear on your card.

  7. Format Your Text - To change font characteristics or spacing, highlight the text and click the right mouse button. A shortcut menu will appear. Select "Font" or "Paragraph" to make changes.

  8. Printing - Selecting the "Print" button will print a page with all cards the same

If you would like to utilize some of the other formatting options available in Microsoft Word you will need to input your text manually:

  1. Complete steps 1 through 4.

  2. From the Envelopes and Labels window select the "New Document" button. This will open a blank, full page business card template. The regular formatting options will be available at the top of your screen.

  3. Add a logo or photo from the "Insert" tab by selecting "Picture." You will then be able to browse to your graphic.

  4. If you create your business card using the full page template, you will need to copy and paste the text and graphics from the first card to the remainder of the page, one card at a time, prior to printing.
