How to Make Bathroom Window Curtains
When you create your own bathroom curtains, you have the advantage of deciding how the finished curtain will look. You must decide on a style, gather your materials and tools and create a plan. With a few tips and steps, you can create your own curtains to match your preferred style.
Things You Will Need:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Paper
- Fabric
- Thread
- Iron
- Curtain Rod
- Needle
- Measure the length and width of your window using a tape measure. Write the measurements down on paper so that you will remember the exact measurements when you are sewing your bathroom window curtains. Decide on what size you want your fabric to be. Plan to use extra material and cut it down later. It is best to have too much than not enough.
- Choose the best types of fabric for your bathroom window curtains. Pick materials that are more solid than sheer so that you will have privacy. Consider what colors and patterns match the rest of your bathroom decor.
- Pick thread that will blend with the fabric that you will be using for your curtains. Find thread that will not stand out and draw attention away from the rest of the curtain.
- Iron the fabric before you begin sewing so that it will be easier to create straight lines. Use a low setting on the iron to prevent burning the material.
- Lay the material out on a large table or the floor. Take out your measurements and use them as a guide to mark where to gather the material. Leave a one-inch seam at the bottom of the curtain and a two-inch seam at the side. Create enough of a seam at the top large to fit your rod through. Make a two-inch seam if your rod is one inch. Decide on how much of a ruffle you want to create on your bathroom window curtain.
- Cut the material down to your specified measurements. Use extra material if you are not sure on the right amount to use.
- Hem the material all the way around a half an inch. Fold the material from both sides over so that they measure an inch and sew them together. Fold another inch for the hem and sew them together.
- Sew a straight line at the top of the curtain where the folded material. Take the rod and put it through the slot that you created. Create another line and gather the material to create a ruffle.
