How to Learn Computer Networking

A network is simply a group of computers that have been linked together so that they can share information. Computer networking has drastically improved the way that computers function with each other. There are many ways that you can learn more about computer networking.

  1. Go to your favorite search engine and type "learn computer networks." You will find several websites that give courses on computer networking. This will help give you a basic understanding of what a computer network is and what it takes to build one. Begin with free courses; there is no need to pay for a course until you know if this is something you would like to pursue.

  2. Visit your local library and search for books on networking. You should find many helpful volumes. Check out several and have them handy as you try to connect your first network. Having the diagrams and pictures from the books nearby will be very helpful as you begin setup.

  3. The best way to learn about a network is to put one together yourself. Attempt to create a wireless network in your home. Connect a wireless router to your USB port. After installing the hardware and following the manufacturer's instructions, you should be able to connect other computers and devices to your new network.

  4. If you are wanting a deeper understanding of computer networking, then contact your local vocational or junior college. Many of these institutions offer classes for a fee. If you are hoping to be able to set up a large network for a business, these types of classes will be essential for your growth.
