How to Import Maternity Clothing From Other Countries

A lot of maternity stores purchase their clothing stock from other countries. You can get a great price on clothing this way, but you will have to purchase in bulk. Always make sure to check with the customs department in your country before attempting to import.


  1. Create a storage area. You will need a business or storage before receiving any shipments. 

  2. Make sure your have all your business and resale licenses.

  3. Go online and search for maternity clothes wholesale. You will get a lot of results from this, so you will need to narrow it down.

  4. Send emails to the companies that interest you. Ask them what their export process is, and if they do business in your country. You will also need to ask what their minimum order is, and what the company charges for shipping.

  5. Request samples. You will want to inspect the product and ensure it is what you're looking for.

  6. Once you have settled on the company that you want to work with, you will need to look into the customs process. Most big companies will already have experience shipping to your country, but you will still want to check with the U.S. Customs and Borders Protection. Even if they don't require a special license for your business, you will want to check with them to see if there are any requirements for importing for your business.

  7. The manufacturer you are working with will send you a contract to sign. Show this contract to an attorney before signing. 

  8. After you have signed the contract and payment has been arranged, the manufacturer will ship your items.
