How to Find a Dentist
Choosing the right dentist is an important first step in maintaining the health of your teeth. This can take some time to do, especially if you are new to an area. The time you spend researching different practices will be well spent once you have found a doctor you are comfortable with.
- Talk with friends and coworkers to find out which dentists they recommend. Find out about their experiences with the dentist and her staff so you can get an idea of what each practice is like. You may want to ask about the length of time it takes to get an appointment, courtesy of dental staff, and how helpful they are in filing insurance claims.
- Check with your insurance company for a list of preferred providers. If so, you may need to choose one from the list in order to avoid being assessed a penalty. While you are scrolling through the names on the list, think about the recommendations you have received from your friends, and look for that doctor's name on the list. If the dentist is not listed, contact your provider and find out if it is possible to add her to this list.
- Visit the practice in person in order to make your first appointment. That way, you can get a feel for how friendly the staff members are and see whether or not the office is clean. You may be asked to fill out some forms that contain basic information while you are there. Do not be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure why the information is needed. By asking questions, you can find out more about the way the practice operates, which can also play a part in your decision.
