How to Figure Overhead on Banquets
A banquet can be rather costly if the customer does not pay close attention to what they are paying for. Trying to figure out the overhead for a banquet can be stressful but it is important to include everything so that those in charge of the event know exactly what they are paying for and how much it costs.
- Access the size of the venue and make sure that it will fit all of the guests comfortably. Find out what the deposit will be for the room.
- Pick a menu that fits within your budget. It is usually cheaper to do a buffet style event then a sit down dinner. If there is going to be alcohol served find out how much a cash bar would be compared to an open bar and pick what works for your budget.
- Inquire if you can bring in outside food. If so find out if there will be an additional fee charged for serving or cake cutting.
- Inspect every area that will be used when renting space. Write down anything damage or problems that are already present so that you are not charged a fee for damages after the event. Inspect any rental equipment as well.
- Pick a source of entertainment like a band or DJ. Check their reputation and see what their cost will be for the length of the event.
- Shop for decorations in bulk and figure out how much their sum would be.
- Add together all of the costs and set aside 10 percent of the budget calculated for least minute purchases, tips for service and additional charges for damages.
