How to Convert Men's Clothing Sizes to Women's

Most men’s clothing sizes are taken at the neck and length and the waist. Women on the other hand have so many measurements that it is almost impossible to keep up with them. When trying to buy clothing for a woman based on a man’s measurements it can get a bit tricky.  There are some ways to accomplish this however.

  • Look at the measurements on a pair of men’s pants and you will find two numbers. Those are the waist and the inseam. The easiest way to change those over to a woman’s measurements is to subtract 21 inches from the man’s waist size on the pants and you will have the woman’s measurement. For example if a woman who is a size 10 in ladies pants she should start out by looking at 31-inch waist in men’s pants.

  • Add two when talking about men’s shoes to get the women’s correct size. There are some little quirks in shoes with women but that is a good place to begin the sizing process with shoes. If a woman wears a size 11 she would look for a size nine in a man’s shoe. The problems will come in the widths but this is a good place to begin.

  • Take measurements at the chest and waist for men’s shirts and then compare them to a woman’s size chart. Sizes in men and women’s shirts are trickier due to the fact that men have thicker necks and larger biceps than women normally do. So generally women will want to get a shirt size one or two smaller to make those adjustments for their tinier bodies.
