How to Choose the Right House Insurance Quotes

When you are trying to find the right home insurance to suit your needs, you will likely get quotes from multiple companies. In the case of insurance for your home, cheaper isn't always better. Choosing the best quote doesn't have to be difficult, but it does start with understanding exactly what types of coverage you need to keep you protected.

  1. Determine how much dwelling insurance you need. Dwelling insurance is the portion of the policy that covers your home. This is what pays for your home to be rebuilt or repaired if it is destroyed or damaged by a covered catastrophe. It also covers other structures, such as carports, garages or sheds on the property.

  2. Appraise your personal property. Personal property insurance covers the contents of your home. This is what you will use to replace your clothing, dishes, towels, furniture, electronics and other items.

  3. Review your personal liability insurance needs. Personal liability insurance is what covers the cost of medical and other bills associated with someone getting hurt on your property. It also covers damage caused to another person’s property by things on your property, such as a tree falling on your neighbor’s house.

  4. Take a look at your condominium association coverage if you're a condo owner. Loss assessment insurance and dwelling improvements, alterations and additions insurance are two types of insurance that condominium owners need. These cover against damage to the condo and accidents that happen on the property that aren’t covered by the association.

  5. Review each insurance quote against the assessments of Steps 1 through 4 to determine the best policy coverage for your specific insurance needs.

Note: Other types of insurance are also available as part of a homeowner policy, so be sure to explain your specific situation to the agent who writes your policy to ensure you have adequate coverage.
