How to Candy Walnuts
Candied walnuts are a delicious snack that's not only good for you but also cheap and simple to make. Although it might be associated with Christmas and the holiday months, it's also a suitable treat for anyone who has a craving for something sweet and healthy.
- Put 1/2 cup of walnut pieces on a greased cookie sheet and toast them in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 minutes.
- In a saucepan, mix together 1/4 cup of white sugar or artificial sweetener, 1/4 tsp. of salt and 4 tbsp. of butter.
- Stir the mixture over medium heat until it starts to caramelize; this should take about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat.
- Pour the toasted walnut pieces into the saucepan and stir them until they are completely coated with the caramelized mix.
- Transfer the nuts back to the cookie sheet and separate them to prevent sticking. Allow them to cool before eating.
