How to Buy Used Auto Seats

Purchasing used auto seats is often a great way to restore the interior of your car without a lot of expense.  The process involves both finding the right seats and then negotiating the best possible price.  Doing so will mean that your car looks great without having to spend a lot of money for that enhanced appearance.

1. Determine what you need in the way of used auto seats.  This means identifying the style and dimensions of the seats, the color and also what you consider an acceptable condition.  While used seats are rarely kept in immaculate condition, keep in mind that going with replacement seats that who few signs of wear and tear will be to your benefit in the long run.


2. Investigate options for where to locate good quality used auto seats.  One possibility is the local auto graveyard.  While the bodies may be in poor condition, there is a good chance that the seats may still be quite usable.  It is also possible to find harvested car seats at a number of online sites, including auctions and retail sites that specialize in used auto components.


3. Make sure the auto seats will fit into your vehicle properly.  Focusing on seats relevant to the make and model of the car will help, but also check to make sure those seats will slide back and forth properly and that the dimensions are an exact match for your old seats.  Doing so will help reduce the chances of making a purchase that ultimately is of no use to your restoration project.


4. See what can be done to secure the best possible price.  Always try to negotiate a price that you can afford.  Many junkyard dealers are open to negotiation.  Start with a price that is below what you are willing to pay, then work with the dealer to eventually arrive at some sort of compromise that is acceptable to both of you.  With an auction, determine how much you are willing to pay, including the costs of shipping or pickup of the seats if you win, and stick to that amount.  Keep in mind if you don’t win the auction, there is always the chance for a better set of auto seats to appear at a later date.
