Steps to Obtain a Motor Vehicle Report for Your Car

When purchasing a used vehicle it is a good idea to know about the vehicle you intend to buy. Motor vehicle reports tell you if the car has been in an accident, if it was flooded, has had maintenance issues or part replacements. Having this information can help you make a wise vehicle purchase.

Obtaining a Motor Vehicle Report

1. Locate the VIN number for the vehicle. The VIN number is located in a few different places; however the easiest location to obtain the VIN number is on the left side of the car in front of the windshield.

2. Choose the online company you would like to use to purchase your vehicle history report such as: CarFax or AutoCheck.

3. When you are on the site, in the correct field, enter the VIN number of the car. Your history report will be generated and sent to your email. It may take a little time to receive your report, anywhere from five minutes to a couple of hours.
