How to Add Oil to an Auto Air Conditioner Compressor
Putting oil in the auto air conditioner compressor does not have to be a task only done by a mechanic. This can be accomplished inside a clean garage. When working with oil and the compressor make sure the area is extra clean because you do not want any dirt getting inside the unit.
Items Needed
- Sockets
- Ratchet
- Set of wrenches
- Air conditioning reclaimer
- Put the reclaimer on the low and high parts of the valves on the AC unit. Start the machine.
- Open the high and low sides of the valves on the reclaimer and push the reclaim button. Keep it in this mode until it reads “0” and turn off the valves.
- Take off the high and low lines on the AC unit from the engine. Take off the electric connector from the compressor and take off the belt. Detach the lines on the compressor and take out the AC compressor.
- Take out the oil from the compressor by pouring it out. Be careful to not let any dirt or debris get into the tank.
- Get the new oil and put it slowly into the low side on the auto air conditioner compressor. Once filled lay down the compressor for 15 minutes to let the oil gets into the seals on the compressor.
- Put back the compressor and move the hub 15 times with your hand and put back the belt and lines on the compressor.
- Put back the electrical lines to the compressor and the high and low hose from the reclaimer. Hit the vacuum button on the reclaimer and let it run for 30 minutes.
- When it is done, shut off the valves and check for any leaks. If the mercury gauge drops below 30 then there is a leak.
