How To Wash an Automobile Engine
Most people overlook cleaning an automobile engine. It can accumulate oil, dirt and crud on a regular basis. Cleaning will allow the car to run better and much cooler. Belts and leaks can also be viewed much better when it is clean. All of the accumulating dirt and oil can make belts much faster. Engine cleaning involves much more than spraying the engine with water because you can cause damage this way.
How to Wash an Automobile Engine
Materials Needed
- Simple Green
- Wrench
- Baggies with twist ties
- Paintbrush
- Garden hose with a nozzle
- Turn on the automotive and allow it to warm up for about 15 minutes. You want it warm but not too hot.
- Park the automotive in an area that does not have a lot of dirt and dust. The area should also be in the shade. Make sure it is not parked over the grass because the chemicals can harm the grass or even kill it.
- Unhook the battery cables using a wrench to loosen the screws. Start with the black or negative cable. Remove the positive or red cable last.
- Use baggies with ties to cover all electrical components in the engine.
- Spray the entire engine with Simple Green and allow it to work on the dirt and grease for about 15 minutes.
- Go over the entire engine with a paintbrush to remove any loose debris.
- Use a garden hose with a nozzle to rinse the engine. Use care when rinsing around the baggies.
- Allow the engine to dry for several hours with the hood up.
- Remove the baggies and twist ties from the electrical components.
- Replace the battery cables. Replace the positive cable and then the negative cable and tighten the screws.
