Headache Home Treatment
Little disturbs your plans for the day like a headache does. It's hard to stay focused and have fun when you are in pain. Of course, you can always take a pain killer to relieve a headache, but sometimes you can resolve it at home with a home remedy.
Hangovers - Headaches resulting from drinking alcohol happen because the alcohol dehydrates your body and zaps essential sugar from your bloodstream. Your brain is not immune to this. You need to re-hydrate your body, but hangovers tend to bring an upset stomach with them. Here is a drink you can whiz together in your blender at home for relief:
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon of honey
Low Blood Sugar - Your brain uses sugars and fats for fuel. If you have not eaten in a while, it can bring on a headache. Eat something simple to cure this headache, like a banana, or complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains. It takes about 20 minutes for the carbohydrates to reach your bloodstream.
Tension and Stress Headaches - Stress pulls muscles tightly in the neck and shoulder area. Doing physical labor when you are not accustomed to it can bring muscle pain, too. Try the following for relief:
- Neck and shoulder massage - Use a little cream or pain relief cream and massage it in or have someone else massage you.
- A hot, relaxing bath or shower - Add some Epsom salts for added benefits.
- Stretch out and rest for a while - A rest in a calm room with the blinds closed for a while may help.
- Massage the temples - They are a known pressure point for pain relief. Also, try pinching the center of the web of skin between your forefinger and thumb. Hold for about five minutes.
- Stretching - Gently rest your head forward to stretch out those muscles if they are tight. Do it a little at a time.
