Van Buren is the county seat of the Crawford County region area of Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 21,248 and the city has a land area of 15.1 square miles. The city was founded in 1818 as a settlement by David Boyd and Thomas Martin. Major Attractions include the King Opera House and the historic downtown district which include the Old Frisco Station and the Drennen Reserve.
