I am always reading and researching whatever in regards to children - educating them and disciplining them - as our center is the main factor during the week in the lives of our children enrolled. As much as some may like to think that we are the authority with regards to parent, we are not and we can only go on our experiences as teachers, parents and childcare providers. As a mom of a 21 year old and a 2 1/2 year old (yes, you read that right - 19 years apart), I feel there is always room for learning and improvement in the parenting, educating and caring department. As a mom of a toddler, I really have to figure out what works with him and what doesn't. He is so different from my oldest child... it truly is like night and day in personalities, etc. So today I came across a book that I would like to recommend. I did purchase this and am waiting patiently for it to arrive so I can read and try it out. The reviews I've read have been excellent by far. The book is called1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for Children 2-12. Now mind you, I grew up with the counting method and use it to this day. It has always been effective - it doesn't require yelling (which is against the law in Alabama - to yell at children in childcare/school). You canread the reviewposted on Chris Thompson's blog. Mind you, this book has been around for quite some time so it's pretty fair game to say that you can probably find it in your local library or you can buy it cheaply on Amazon (soft cover) or download for Kindle. ...read more
