About Skagway, AK
Skagway, a first class borough, is located on the Alaska Panhandle. During the winter the city has a population of around 850 people, but because of the city's tourism industry that number double during the summer. Over 900,000 people visit the city every summer because it is a popular stop for cruise lines. The city's White Pass and Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad is run only during the summer and is purely run for the tourists. Skagway is home to to nationally protected areas, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and the Tongass National Forest. The city is one of only three Southeast Alaska communities that are connected to the road system. Part of Jack London's book Call of the Wild was set in Skagway.
