Juneau is a unified municipality of Alaska known for its breath taking scenery and its sparse civilization. Major attractions include many of both abandoned and still used goldmines as well as a multitude of excellent fishing and camping spots located throughout the coast and mainland. Each year the summer seasons are usually cool and mild in contrast to the wet and cold winters due to the influence of the Pacific Ocean. Among the biggest companies in Juneau are the various fishing industries, and Juneau's large expanse of local, state, and federal government organizations including all airports, schools, and hospitals. The biggest schools here are the University of Alaska Southeast and the many elementary, middle schools, and high schools. One of the best places to visit when you are in Juneau is the Perseverance Theater which hosts various music festivals and stage productions. Famous persons from Juneau include Wyatt Earp, Jewel, and Jack London to name a few.
