Three of us found Pablos very close to the bike trail and decided to give him a try. Pablo was pleasant and good natured, the bikes, though not brand new, were Cannondale and Specialized etc.- so good quality bikes, at least at the time of manufacturing. We met a stranded biker about 3 miles into the trip, his bike, from Pablos, had stopped working, broken ratchet inside the rear hub – some poor maintenance. As the trip continued, one of our bikes had signs of the same hub problem. At a steep hill, my bike would shift 2 notches below the 1 to actually get into low gear, but then the rear derailer was hitting the spokes. Then I found I was peddling when others could coast – my rear brake was rubbing constantly. We made it back safely. We listed about 7 issues with the 3 bikes and heard ‘I’ll take a look’ for each one. There was no apology and I’ll bet these sad bikes were re-rented ‘as is’.
