What to Do When You're Hurt on the Job
If you have recently been injured on the job, you should know your rights so that you can recover as quickly as possible. After being rushed to the hospital, Fred is told he'll be out of work for two weeks until the tendon on his thumb heals and, since his regular duties involve heavy use of his thumbs, he won't be able to return to his regular job for some time. That means Fred's going to be out a lot of money until he heals properly. Example # 2: The Serious Injury Bob is a working construction for a boss that doesn't tolerate laziness. So Bob, wanting to make a good impression, rushes through his job, cutting corners and taking risks. He also knows that if he can get his work done in time, his boss will give him and his co-workers a bonus. This is even more of an incentive to race through the hammering, nailing and hanging doors; whatever he's required to do that day. Bob, cutting the usual corners, gets onto the roof of the building without the proper safety equipment and, as he's racing across the boards that will soon hold roof shingles, he doesn't notice that one of them isn't nailed down properly. It's not until he's falling through to the concrete floor below that he realizes that he's cut his last corner. Bob wakes up in the hospital with a broken leg and arm and a concusion, among some other minor cuts and bruises. His doctor tells him he's going to be out of work for months. You can see how both situations, even though one's minor and one is very serious, can put a damper on anyone's life.
