About Akiak, AK
Akiak is a small village in the Bethel region of Alaska, with a population of 309. Akiak refers to "the other side" because the Eskimos used Akiak in the winter as a crossing point to the Yukon River Basin. Akiak is unique in that alcohol is prohibited within the city limits. Most of the residents work for the city of Akiak, in the Yupiit school district, or in seasonal employment such as commercial fishing. The Kokarmuit Corporation and Stephen Ivan and Sons are area merchants.
