Has to be Experienced!
If I could only see one plantation, this would be it. (Cost: $10)
The home is beautiful, but the most amazing part of this property is the "alley" of aged oaks that form a high arch that leads to the house. The peacefulness of this enclave with birds singing is truly lovely. Mint juleps are offered in a "keeper" plastic cup and they are GOOD and not shy on the bourbon, ($5)
We had lunch at the restaurant, and the atmosphere is nice/casual and clean but not fussy.
As in most of this area of Louisiana, there is not much offered for low-fat diets, however I would recommend the chicken fricassee for an alternative selection. Other than that most items are fried. I did ask for (and was nicely accomodated) grilled shrimp on my salad rather than fried. It was very good, and the shrimp were seasoned perfectly.
The bread pudding was good, not great, but the slices of carrot cake looked wonderful and I would try that next time. Great coffee!

New experience for this Northener
Being from New Jersey, I found the Oak Alley Plantation to be very interesting. It had a nice restaurant (loved the beignets!) that did not charge a ton for food, a lovely restored plantation house, and overall beautiful scenery. I especi...
