What Do We Do With Bunnies?
What do we do with bunnies?:
It's not just the bunnies that need help. We work to educate
owners too. Often a little education about the proper diet and some
coaching on how to talk to and live with your rabbit are all an owner
needs to improve thier relationship with their pet 100% .
We also help owners find low cost spay and neuter and good rabbits vets in their area.
We have an inexhaustible supply of fresh Timothy hay available for
a donation of $5.00 per BIG BAG and when you come to pick it up we'll
happily trim your bunny's nails for you.
We get rabbits from EVERYWHERE. most often they get dumped in
parks where the owners think they will be able to run and play with
other dumped bunnies -but the truth is - rabbits are picky about their
friends and territorial.
A dumped bunny will be quickly beaten up by any existing semi
feral rabbits in a park or wilderness area. Sort of like one gang
member entering the territory of another. Then, flies may lay eggs in
any resulting wounds and thumper will either die of fly-strike,
starvation, the elements or predator.
They are not rodents, They are lagomorphs, an exotic animal. They
are intelligent creatures with their own language and culture. They do
best living inside with a litter box and a family, rather than outside
alone in a cage. They are considered to be poultry and classed as farm
animals. Domestic rabbits are an entirely different species from their
often endangered cousins in the wild, hares.
They are the most often dumped pet and the 3rd most often
euthanized. The shelters are full! We rescues are full! The only things
that will help save rabbits from terrible deaths and living conditions
are
EDUCATION, RESCUE and RESPECT.
