About Philippi, WV
Philippi is located in Barbour County, known for Civil War history. The four-year, Baptist-founded liberal arts college, Alderson-Broaddus College, is a major employer. Younger students attend Barbour County Schools. The local chamber lists a number of historical and scenic attractions. One of the most well-known is the two-lane covered bridge leading into town. The Barbour County Historical Museum bridges history from 1635 to the current day. Living history occurs during the Blue and Gray reenactment that annually commemorates the first land battle of the Civil War. A famous past resident of the wider area was Anna Jarvis, the woman who founded Mother's Day.
