About Delbarton, WV
Delbarton, a town in Mingo County, is situated in the middle of West Virginia's richest coal area. Originally named "Rock Creek," Delbarton took its current name from the country estate of a United Thacker Land Company official, and was incorporated as such by the Mingo County Circuit Court on September 6, 1946. A community on the move, Delbarton recently opened the doors of its new Opry House, the place to be on Saturday nights for bluegrass, country, clogging and gospel music. Other important Delbarton businesses include Lisas Unique Styles and Ply DO. The area is famous for the fact that the most notorious feud in United States history, the Hatfield/McCoy vendetta, took place between Delbarton's home county of Mingo and adjacent Pike County in Kentucky. Today, a major trail system has been named in their honor, and the Hatfield-McCoy Trails have become nationally recognized for the deep valleys and twisting paths that inspire hikers, bikers and horseback riders alike to push themselves to the limit. On the less-strenuous side, golfing enthusiasts will enjoy a day at Mingo County's Twisted Gun Golf Course, which was built on a former strip mine high atop a local mountain. Renowned for its great play and see-for-miles scenery, some have been known to travel more than two hours each weekend to play this course.
