About Antigo, WI
Antigo is the county seat of Langlade County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census the population was 8,560. Antigo is an epicenter for the farming and lumbering industries. Companies in Antigo are known for the manufacture of chairs, furniture, doors, hubs, spokes, and other wood products. The name "Antigo" comes from the Chippewa Indians who lived in the area, being the name of a nearby river. Major attractions include the Langlade County Museum, where visitors can learn of the city's historical roots, and of the city's founder, Francis A. Deleglise. The Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center opened in 2005, and is another popular place to visit. Also, the Langlade County Fairgrounds is a popular venue during both winter and summer months. Famous persons from Antigo include Justin Berg of the Chicago Cubs, and author James Bradley.
