Choosing a Chiropractor in Spokane
So this post is written in direct response to several who have switched their care over to Glanville Family Chiropractic and Wellness in the last few weeks. There were various reasons they are choosing a different chiropractor in Spokane. My plan is to address several of those concerns and make it easier to choose a chiropractor in Spokane or anywhere. 1. Education: One patient I had come in to me had several concerns with her last chiropractor who did some very specific tests and recommended an extensive treatment plan. As I talked with this patient it became clear to me that the issue was not that he was a bad chiropractor but that he had failed to simply communicate with and educate his patient. As she explained the test he had done I knew pretty quickly what it was and that it was a valid tool. Too bad the other chiropractor had not taken the time to explain what he was doing and the science behind it. 2. Diagnostics: Another patient came into to me with chronic lower back pain and a recent acute flare-up include sharp pain which radiated down his leg to the knee. She had just moved and had been seeing a chiropractor in her previous town sporadically for quite some time. When I asked her the last time she had any x-rays taken she could not remember. Upon taking x-rays of her lower back I discovered significant osteoarthritis. When I explained that the best way to deal with osteoarthritis was to restore proper motion she quickly signed on for regular care. If the other doctor had only taken x-rays years earlier this woman may have prevented some serious degeneration. 3. Honesty: One thing that we all hate is when people are not up front about what they provide, the results expected and how much it will cost. Patients usually come to my office with some variation of the following four questions: what is wrong with me, can you help, how long will it take and how much will it cost. What I have found works best is to try and answer these questions before they are asked. That way the patient never has to feel uncomfortable asking the question. There are lots of chiropractors out there who make promises about being able to provide miracle cure or that his/her technique will get you better results faster than anybody else. Do not listen to those people. Sometimes, they are right and sometimes they are wrong. The reality is that chiropractic works for a great many things. My only promise to my patients is that I will do my best and will do what I have to in order to get them feeling better, even if that means sending them to someone else. So, next time you are looking for a chiropractor keep those three things in mind. Make sure they are willing to explain and educate you as to what is going on. They should also be thorough in their exam and diagnoses, taking x-rays, or sending out for an MRI if necessary. Above all else they should be up front and honest with you. ...read more
