About Saltville, VA
Saltville is a part of the southwest region of Virginia known for its rich Southern history and its abundant salt mines. Saltville was the seat of two major battles in the Civil War, as well as the main source of salt for the Confederate Army throughout. Major attractions include the Civil War Battlefield Overlook, Salt Park, and Museum of the Middle Appalachians, all of them including local historical lore and monuments. Each year in October, the town has its Annual Civil War Troop Memorial Service, and each first week of December, locals are treated to the annual Christmas parade. Local businesses include the popular pizzeria Pizza Plus and the sports shop The Sportsman's Den. The biggest public school here is Northwood High School, but there are also several colleges in Saltville, including King College, Emory and Henry College, and East Tennessee University. The town has a thriving manufacturing industry, as well as plentiful opportunities for retail shopping.
