About New Market, VA
New Market is a town in Shenandoah County in Virginia, known as the site of the Battle of New Market on May 15, 1864. Stonewall Jackson's troops had marched through New Market on four different occasions. New Market was was on the main thoroughfare through the Shenandoah valley during the Civil war, therefore it was strategically placed. Schools around here are Stonewall Jackson High School, Massanutten Military Academy and Shenandoah Valley Academy, just to name some. New Market is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is registered as a Virginia Historic landmark. Make sure to not miss The Battle of New Market Reenactment. They proclaim it as a unique historical experience, that also takes place on the original 1864 battlefield.
