About Panguitch, UT
Panguitch is the seat of Garfield County known for its proximity to national parks and dramatic cliff and rock formation scenery. Major employers in the county focus on tourism, such as Ruby's Inn and Xanterra Parks and Resorts. South Central Utah Telephone is another key job source. Students attend Garfield County Public Schools. Panguitch is surrounded by places to visit. Bryce Canyon National Park is only 25 miles away. A wildlife museum showcases artifacts and flora and fauna. The annual Quilt Walk Festival offers quilting classes, a pancake breakfast, art fair, and pioneer home tour. The festival reflects the town's history, when early settlers, snowed in at high altitude, began to walk to another settlement to get food. Unable to make much progress in the slippery snow, they resourcefully placed quilts under their feet. Jens Nielsen, the leader of the first settlement at Panguitch, was one of these early, hard past residents.
