Responsible Dog Ownership

Here in Dallas the last few days have well.....been freezing, as it was for much of the nation, but in my little bubble where I live I saw such astounding things when it came to peoples dogs.  Let me say this again we had freezing and below freezing days....we went out fully bundled head to toe, to avoid frost bite and such.  I even saw dogs out for walks with sweaters on....but some dogs completely ALONE!!  I am not kidding, owners putting sweaters on Fluffy, then sending them outside in front unleashed unattended in 17 degree weather!  I am not talking large dogs, I am talking small toy breeds, or as I started to worry future pupsicles.  If it is too cold for the human to go out and be with their animal, or too much of a burden, then go buy potty pads, if you are staying in your dog should be too.  One Fluffy in particular followed me on my walk for a good 10 minutes, far from where they originally met up with me.  I tried to catch the sweatered baby but it was quite shy.....but soon in the far distances I finally heard a human voice, calling the dog, he spun and raced towards the voice.....and was too quick for me to follow and have a quick lecture with the owner.  That night it was 1 degree, the dog weighed maybe 8 pounds.....I wonder how long it would have been before that dog succombed to the cold or developed frost bite....and how long the owner would have called from the warmth of their doorway, before finally venturing out to find their baby...... ...read more

I stopped using this expensive vet years ago when my husband lost his job. I now use Banfield. However, I continued buying heartworm prevention from VCA FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, I have purchased it from them every six months for the past ten years. However, today I was told they wouldn't sell it to me anymore, even after I had Banfield fax over his current negative heartworm test from 3 months ago and current shot records.\t\nThat's not the worst of it! We brought our other dog, 9-yr-old chihuahua, in to VCA for emergency vet care after an infection from a neighbor's dog bite, and they gave him a shot and said he'd be fine! They sold us an expensive antibiotic that we were supposed to start him on the next day! BUT WE COULDN'T GIVE HIM THE ANTIBIOTIC THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE HE DIED OVER-NIGHT! We were devastated! AND THEY REFUSED TO REFUND US FOR THE UNTOUCHED ANTIBIOTIC, EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T ASK FOR A REFUND FOR THE EXPENSIVE VET CARE! If you love your dog do not bring him to this INCOMPETENT vet! ...read more
