I was recommended this company through a friend, and from the start they were extremely professional and reliable. The electrician was always on time, and the price was the best out of all the quotes I got, and certainly didn`t affect on the work they carried out. Unlike other electricians who I have used in the past who were always late, didn`t finish the work, had payment problems with, I didn`t have any of these problems with Scharmen Electrical Contractors Inc.. ...read more

What is Lawn Renovation?

What is Lawn Renovation? Lawn renovation involves killing existing turf and replacing it with new grass without tilling or changing the surface grade. This procedure is usually performed when less than 50% of the lawn contains desirable grasses. If a renovation or overseeding is beig done due to thin, weak, or damaged areas, a soil test should first be done to help determine what is causing the issue. Soil amendments and fertilizer should then be applied based on the soil test results. Other issues to consider are are soil compaction, lawn diseases, and pest damage.http://www.tnbladerunners.com/ ...read more

When to aerate your lawn

When to aerate your lawn Soil compaction is one of the main causes of an unhealthy lawn. In Clarksville, the best times to aerate your lawn are early spring April 1 – May 15 and early autumn Sept 1- Sept 30. During these times, your lawn is actively growing and can easily fill in the openings left in the turf by the aerator. Although you can aerate spring and fall, springtime is less desirable due to weed germination. During the fall weed pressure will be much lower due to the limited number of weeds germinating late in the season. It is also a good practice to perform over-seeding during aerification of your lawn. Seed can be sewn right after aerification then a drag harrow or section of chain link fence can be drug over the cores to break them up and cover the grass seed providing a nice seed bed.Aeration on very dry soil is less effective because plug depth is less than ideal. On the other hand, very wet soils also cause problems as they tend to clog the hollow tines of aerators. We recommend that you water your lawn 1-2 days before aeration service is performed. This will give the water a chance to be absorbed into the soil thereby allowing for a deeper plug to be pulled. Some species of lawn grasses such as Fescue can develop root structures as deep as 6”. Although many aerators are not capable of pulling soil cores to this depth, the deeper the plug that can be pulled, the better.Related Articles:Benefits of lawn aeration -Improves the root zone spread by relieving soil compactionPromotes deeper rooting of turf grasses thereby aiding in drought resistanceAccelerated root growth improves nutrient and fertilizer uptakeAllows for better soil drainageHelps to break up thatch due to the cutting action of the hollow tinesmore…Lawn cultivation – Soil compaction, soil layering, and excessive thatch buildup are all common problems in many places including Tennessee.
