Newport is a city in Cocke County, and is known for being the county seat. Famous attractions include Beechwood Hall and the Cocke County Courthouse, both on the National Register of Historic Places. Newport is well known for having been a major logging hub in the late 19th century, once a prime logging location for the Scottish Carolina Timber and Land Company.
