Should I purchase a home in todays market?

Well, that is a decision only you can make. Shortsales taking over REO's?

After closing another short sale this past week again has been cause for reflection of the real estate market today. It does appear there is a more concerted effort by the banks to short sale vs foreclose. short sale vs foreclosure?
