Smith Dean & Associates Responds to anonymous internet rants
We would like to set the record straight and state the facts for all to understand once and for all.
Before any one of our clients place an account with us, or any other collection agency, they attempt to collect the debt themselves for 30-90 days before placing the DELINQUENT debtor to us. After our client (the lender) realizes the debtor (the borrower) is not going to pay them, they then forward the now very past due balance to us (the collector).
The ridiculous nature of the statements made by the complainants (the debtor) is that not a single one of these people ranting about us and other collection agencies will take one ounce of responsibility for the fact that they borrowed $ MONEY $ from some business and DID NOT PAY IT BACK!! In many instances, these individuals broke laws by writing worthless checks.
They also fail to mention that every one of them could have worked out an affordable payment plan with our client (the lender) during the 30-90 days before we received the account. After breaking every payment arrangement or flat out just not paying the debt, they decide to go to the internet and post anonymous comments making them out to be the VICTIM !!.
We maintain that we follow the letter and the spirit of the law in every instance in attempting to collect a debt. Furthermore we are always in complete compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
All we can say is that in a perfect world, if the borrower (now debtor), would have paid back the monies they borrowed in the first place, there would be no reason for us to be contacting them at all.
So potential clients, please keep in mind, the people who are on the internet complaining about collection agencies are the very people who have taken your money and refuse to pay you back. YOU ARE THE VICTIM. Not them...........

i received a call from this woman named TIFFANY CLARK saying that if i did'nt send her money via moneygram she was going to have the police come and pick me up from my job.so i prepared myself to go pay the until i decide to look them up and thankgoodness i did because ...they are scamers.they call and herrass me at my job and on my cell.i also got a call on 4-20-12 saying that if i didnt pay they was going to have my license revoke.this place need to be stop they rude and disrepectful.

On Feb. 18,2011 Smith Dean & Associates called me at my work place and lefted a message on voicemail for me to get in contact with ANGIE SMITH when I spoke with this ___ she stated that she was going to court and my name was on dockit for a HOT CHECK that I wrote at FAS...T CASH, INC. I began to stop this ____ and question if she had the right person cause in my mind I've been paying on this check FAITHLY every month. This ___ begin telling me I have two hours to pay this check in FULL and show proof that I've been paying on it. She said if I didn't pay it in FULL, there would be a WARRENT for my arrest. She done HARRASSMENT and LIED. That ___ didn't appear in NO court and didn't show NO LLR court papers. She had my blood pressure up. I was paying this check and for a $150.00 all this ___. ANGIE SMITH at SMITH DEAN AND ASSOCIATES can go to ____. You staright LIED and treated me like I was ___. Everyone do like me seek a attorney and call the news stations this company is FAKE!
Should be illegal
What these people do is a shame. They call here for someone that hasn't lived here in ages and make up stuff about criminal charges and affadavits and then you find out that they are nothing more than petty liars trying to perform debt collection.
It's all just scare tactics.
Travis Dean from Smith, Dean & Associates called my 3 references that I had used on my PDL and told them to contact me if they didn't want me to go to jail due to the warrant he was going to obtain for my arrest due to this defaulted PDL. I then contacted him as request...ed...didn't have a case number on file for me, couldn't obtain it through my phone number or SSN. He was very rude and kept asking if he was wasting his time by talking to me. I had to send them $430 via Moneygram or he was going to have a warrant out for my arrest and that he was at court right then. I of course freaked out and called my family for some help. This Travis Dean guy couldn't take any funds or CC# and said I had until so and so a time to get them the Moneygram or he'd have me arrested. I had asked my mom for the funds, and she said she'd get back to me. Thank God she researched them before she sent the money. She read the testimonials and told me they couldn't arrest me and they were just usin'scaretactics.
