About Columbia, SC
Columbia is the state capital of South Carolina and the county seat of Richland County (though a small part of the city is located in Lexington County). It is the largest city in the Midlands region of the state. In 2009 US News & World Report ranked Columbia as one of "America's Best Affordable Places to Retire." Columbia has been revitalizing its downtown area and has added a number of shops, restaurants, and art galleries. the University of South Carolina's main campus is located here. Attractions include the Robert Mills House, the Colonial Life Area, and the South Carolina State Museum. Famous residents include actor Kristin Davis and band Hootie & the Blowfish. Kids attractions include Fort Jackson Water Park, Frankies Fun Park, PLEX, and Laugh 'N Leap.
