Olyphant, located about five miles southeast of Scranton, is a city in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. According to legend, there is a hidden treasure located in Olyphant. It is said that clues are hidden in the towns churches, which when looked at on a map kind of resemble the constellation Orion. In the past, the city's main industry was the shipping of coal. Among the largest businesses located in Olyphant today are Pawnee Parts Manufacturing Plant Incorporated, Mellons West and Dirch Marketing. Students here attend the Mid Valley School District. Famous people with ties to the city include actress Patricia Crowley and former New York Yankee Mike Gazella, who played with Babe Ruth.
