About Monaca, PA
Monaca is a borough in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It is located along the Ohio River, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Monaca was first incorporated as Phillipsburg in 1840. In 1892, the name of the borough was changed to Monaca to honor of the Native American Indian Monacatootha. Monacatootha, meaning "Great Arrow", was an Oneida indian chief, and was a representative of the Iroquois Confederacy. In 1753 Monacatootha met with George Washington in Logstown. He was a good friend to the English and campaigned against the French along with the colonists. As of 2000, the population of Monaca was 6,286. The biggest schools here are Todd Lane Elementary School and Center Area High School. Famous persons from Monaca include professional basketball player Brad Davis and country musician Dusty Drake.
