Crowne Plaza Hotel Portland-Lake Oswego

2.0

By TheTripChick at Citysearch

Actual rating: 2.5 stars, but I am not willing to round up to three for this place.\t\n\t\nThe hotel itself could stand a complete (inside, outside, everything) upgrade and updating. The lobby and public areas are pretty dated, but clean and overall just fine. Our room looked like there was a nod toward updating the room, but that it was done in a haphazard, "let's throw this at the wall and see if it'll stick" way. The bed appeared newer (everyone's copying the Heavenly Bed or some version thereof at this point) and a small couch did as well, but otherwise this appeared to be a standard mid-eighties hotel room - especially the bathroom.\t\n\t\nCouple of things that drove this rating down from a three:\t\n\t\n1. We arrived and checked in around midnight. When we opened the door to our room, it felt as though someone had left a window wide open (it is January, and there is snow on the ground in spots). Yes, it was THAT cold, we could see our breath; it honestly must have been in the mid-forties in our room. Chalk that up to a new travel experience: the Polar Bear Room. In the middle of an igloo? Yes, we were. We set the heat on at 70 degrees and went to bed fully clothed and miserable, cowering and shivering under the covers. Needless to say, we did not sleep well. The temp finally got up to 67 degrees around 6AM - good lord.\t\n\t\n2. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, the shower head is really low. To give you a better idea, I am 5' 3" on a good day and I conked my head on the thing a few times while trying to get clean.\t\n\t\n3. Speaking of the shower and trying to get clean, I had an "ICK!" moment in the shower. I turned on the water to bring it up to temp and when I reached for the little button to turn the shower on, my hand got tangled in someone else's long hair. Ewewewewewewewewewew! Seriously, I was grossed out. Not just one strand, but what appeared to be a clump. After untangling myself and trying to make the most of it, I managed to get Someone Else's Hair off my hand and then took one of the quicker showers I have ever managed, just to get out of that gross place. \t\n\t\nLesson here: sometimes you get what you pay for. Priceline gave us this room for $60. However, Priceline also just gave us a room tonight at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland for $66, so that is where we will be staying this evening. No more Crowne Plaza for us, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. If you need to stay in the Lake Oswego area, shoot for the Holiday Inn Express - much better reviews, kids. ...read more

Meringue

I've been to and purchased things at Meringue a handful of times - more than 5; less than 10, I would say. This past weekend I visited & I realized why I don't go more - the only reason I visited was because they were having a 'sale' which really was only a small rack of clearance type items that had obviously been there for a long time. It was certainly no store-wide sale. Their merchandise is so over-priced (same things at Nordstrom/other stores but more expensive), I wouldn't buy unless it were on sale.\t\n\t\nI arrived close to closing time & the 2 girls working the store could not WAIT for me to leave. (especially the blonde who actually rolled her eyes as she had to stop the vaccum when I arrived 20 minutes before closing time). I actually could not believe how annoyed they looked.\t\n\t\nI agree with the other reviewer that trying to return anything is nearly impossible & the grief they give you - the guilt trip is amazing.\t\n\t\nThe worst part is that beyond a half-hearted 'hi' when you walk in the door, they won't talk to you again until you make your purchase. I've never been asked if I needed help, I've never been "shown" anything in the store, and I'd never feel comfortable asking a question because i'd feel like a complete idiot asking one of these girls any 'advice' on how anything looked. \t\n\t\nGrowing up in LO and living here the past 36 years, I've never experienced a local business so snooty, and pretty darn ok with being that way. Maybe they can afford to have that attitude but I'd rather spend my well earned dollars at Grapevine, right around the corner, where there is A+ service, great selection of designer - both affordable & not-so - merchandise, and the feeling the owners/staff are happy to have you in their store. Shopping at Grapevine is like having a personal shopper - a complete 180 from Meringue.\t\n\t\nMy first time writing a review, but this visit struck me enough I had to write!! ...read more

A lot of their items sit in the store for a long time. I've bought many things that when I get home they are flawed and have damage. Trying to get a refund is beyond a major hassle and almost impossible. Consider how much you spend and the terrible customer service, I'd stick to Nordstroms or Revolve clothing on the internet. This boutique is way over priced for the quality of the clothes. Won't be back. ...read more
