I had the tempura vegetables and my husband had the steak. The steak came chopped and cut... we thought that was unusual, I am guessing that it was in case we decided to use chop sticks (?). The tempura was ok. The steak was ok. We ordered no drinks, except a tea, which was NOT what I ordered, instead it tasted like peanut oil. We ordered no desert, and it cost us over $40!! This restaurant is an offshoot of one that is in El Paso. It's a bit pricey for Las Cruces. I think they will find that if they don't lower their prices, this restaurant will ultimately fail in this market. Pros: Nice private booths. Japanese food! Cons: Pricey, tea is not what they say it is. Will we visit again? Probably, but not in the near future, and I will bring my own tea. ...read more

After hearing raves about Jake's for the last couple of years, we finally tried it when we were lured in by the sound of ""Chicken fried steak smothered in Green Chile enchilada sauce"", .... and wow, that was the best chicken fried steak ever! We have since gone back several times... for more C.F.S., of course, but also the green chile burger, and chicken strips... soon to try more of the Mexican menu... First, all the food is cooked to order, usually, if not always, by your chef and owner, Jake. The fries are freshly cut.. all ingredients are fresh and homemade - no pre-made and frozen, ""warm it up in the microwave"" food. The fare is Mexican/American with burritos, enchiladas, tacos, burgers, salads, and soon to come... pizza. We eat there at least once a week with the comforting knowledge that we're not eating MSG microwaved processed food... and it's tasty too! ...read more
