You will actually see an array of clothing choices on formal nights - in today's market. There are still a few who really dress to the nines - tux, evening gowns, etc. Then there are most folks who wear what one would wear to Church - coat and tie for the men, and a lovely dress or suit for the women. Relax! Formal nights certainly are not what they use to be! For the Sensation, the guys can wear a nice pair of casual slacks, a collared shirt (even polo-type), loafers, and the gals can wear pretty sundresses (not pool cover-ups) and sandals, or slacks and semi-dressy tops. On the Sensation, you will see everything at dinner - just wear something that you will be comfortable in and not embarrassed - best policy is it's better to be a little over dressed, than under dressed! the Lido is, as others have mentioned, is another choice, which is very casual, and then you have room service!

One should always assume that something can go wrong! With the urgency of you returning overseas, it good that you booked a flight the day after the scheduled ship's return.
However, most likely, you will be fine. You did not give the month in which you are sailing or from which port, but baring mechanical problems or storms, you should be fine!

It sounds as if you booked into a group - based on the $25 deposit. All other monies should be refundable as long as it is before final payment deadline. Contact the agency you booked with and tell them to cancel and refund all monies. Ask for a cancellation receipt!

First, your cruise protection plan must include "cancel for any reason" to cover your cruise investment should you decide "I just don't want to go now." Otherwise, you will lose your vacation investment. However, you still should be outside the penalty period for canceling. You must cancel your cruise PRIOR to final payment date in order to get a full refund.
I personally would not cancel. Most of the violence is going on at the border towns, not the resort areas. As long as you travel smartly, as everyone should do traveling anywhere, you will be fine, The cruise lines will not take you to places that are unsafe. Don't venture off on your own, and stay with your excursion groups.

Most cruise ships arrive back to port usually by 6am or a bit earlier. Cell phones are usually 'back up' to local cell towers a few miles out from the port where additional roaming charges are not incurred. You could hear from them very early, as most lines ask for passengers to vacate their cabins no later than 8am!
Most hotels and resorts have cribs available, and usually are free to use. I would like to suggest that before using one, you wipe down with hot water and a soapy washcloth, and then rinse off and dry.

I do agree, most cruise lines do not require a tux for formal nights; however, if you are sailing on Cunard, you may wish to get your tux! Perhaps next time, though, you might consider using a professional travel consultant when booking your vacations... we are extremely helpful and will always answer your questions and educate you as to what to expect during your cruising experience! Make sure you go on the cruise line's web site and complete their online check-in process. Once everything is completed, the system will allow you to print your 'boarding pass' - this will expedite your pier-side check in process. When you arrive at the pier, you will drop off all your luggage first. If luggage tags were not supplied by the cruise line, you will need your stateroom number and will need to fill in tags. Then you will proceed to enter the cruise terminal. Have all paperwork in your hand; i.e., passports, birth certificates and boarding passes. Once this documentation is shown, you will be allowed to enter. You will most likely go through a brief screening area - you walking through a metal detector and your carry ons placed in a belt for scanning. Then you will proceed to the area, and lines, for checking in. At the counter, you will show your documents again, given your "card" to use on board as a cabin key and charge card. Once boarding begins, you will follow the crowd. At one point, you will be asked to step up to a podium type area for a photo of you that will correspond to your 'card', used to re-enter the ships from your ports. This card must be carried with you when you leave the ship and go into the different ports! This and your driver's license, or photo ID, is necessary to re-board the ship. Although it is not recommended, you can go on a closed-loop US cruise without a passport, just a certified copy, or the original, of each person's birth certificate. Closed loop means that you set sail from a US port and return to a US port. Passports are usually returned within 6 to 8 weeks right now. The expedited fee is $60 per passport and will get your passport back to you within 2 weeks or sooner. Since it is really not necessary to have passports for August, you might want to consider getting the children theirs next time their father is in town - or at least get one next time he is here, and the other child's on his next visit. This way, you will be ready for future travel with your family! This is why we recommend using a professional travel consultant! A good travel agent would answer all these questions for you, making your upcoming cruise something exciting to look forward to, instead of worrying about unknown details! As noted by others, Carnival does offer 24 hour room service from a somewhat limited menu. And, as previously mentioned, is complementary; however, tipping $2-$5 is suggested, depending on what is ordered. Also, please be informed that the quantity of food ordered at one time is also unlimited - but please tip accordingly! The food for room service is good and fresh and is usually delivered within minutes of stated time! Enjoy!
