How are bamboo floors eco-friendly?
"Bamboo is not considered a tree, but a plant. Its grow cycle is much shorter than that of say oak or maple or pine. Normally, bamboo can be harvested to be made into flooring between 3-6 years. If the harvesting is done responsibly, then it has minimal impact on the environment. Strand bamboo however, is actually made by tearing bamboo down to fibers and then gluing them back together. That makes strand bamboo more durable than regular one, but also less environmentally friendly, due to all the chemicals found in that glue."
how stop wood floors from squeaking
"The squeak might be caused by the flooring or the subflooring. If you have access from the basement, you can try to put some screwes from beneath through the frame joists and into the subfloor and floor. PAY ATTENTION TO THE LENGTH OF THE SCREWS!! you don't want them sticking up through the flooring. Have somebody walk on the floor while you are in the basement to locate the origin of the sqeak."
